Take a minute and think about how many minutes of your day you are not listening to music or a podcast with your earbuds, attending a virtual (or in-person) meeting, scrolling social media, watching tv, or talking on the phone to a friend or colleague. I’m betting your results are like mine…my world is almost never silent.

How are you going to reach your employees, knowing that they are also living in a busy, noisy world? How are your messages going to break through and connect?

  1. Share information and news that is energizing. Employees want to feel they are part of a successful organization that is making an important difference in the world. Focus on information that illustrates how your company is doing just that.
  2. Shine a spotlight on great accomplishments. Employees also want to be recognized when they make important (big or small) contributions to everyone’s shared success.
  3. Be the first to send out the scoop. Who’s in, even who’s out…your employees are always curious to know the latest about their colleagues. Better if you share this info than letting the grapevine handle it.
  4. Be helpful. Is there something employees need to know, or a tool they have access to that they may not even know about?
  5. No matter what you send…be brief! Short and impactful messages, whether written or video, mean that more employees will take a minute to see what you sent…and hopefully, stay to read or watch it!
